THE MISSION OF EASE T1D
Our goal is to bring EDUCATION to medical professionals, school staff, and to the general public about how to treat and care for children with type 1 diabetes (T1D). AWARENESS on the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes as well as encourage the implementation of legislation on the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes to parents at all well baby/child care visits, in an effort to prevent misdiagnosis. SUPPORT to our T1D community through the sharing of resources, family events, and personal experiences. EMPOWERMENT to the families through assistance, knowledge, and unity.

EASE T1D and Bret Michaels
appear in front of a California
Senate Meeting to pass bill SB 138
Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) introduced legislation in the California State Senate to expand the diabetes education in schools to include Type 1 diabetes. This bill would require the governing board of a school district and the governing body of a charter school to work with their schools that maintain any of kindergarten or grades 1 to 12, inclusive, to identify the most appropriate methods of informing parents and guardians of pupils of type 1 diabetes and to implement the identified methods by January 1, 2021. By imposing additional requirements on school districts and charter schools, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program. To read the full text of the bill, please visit SB 138 on the legislature page.
Update on SB 138
Senate Bill 138 passed unanimously 7-0 in the Senate Education Committee! We are thrilled to say the least. Now it moves forward to the next step. Watch history being made...

2017 Year End Highlights for EASE T1D
We are very proud to share our 2017 accomplishments in raising awareness on Type 1 Diabetes.
We started off the year continuing our work with Senator Richard Roth. Senator Roth met with Family Physicians as well as the California Medical Association to discuss how to educate practicing doctors and health care practitioners on how to better identify the symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes in an effort to make an early diagnosis and prevent DKA. The conclusion was to have Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses offered on T1D. This is something we will be looking into in 2018.
In September we met with Senator Jeff Stone who will be putting forth two bills on the 2018 Docket; one for an Education Code on T1D to be included in all incoming 7th Grade Registration Packets and one on curriculum to be taught on T1D through secondary schools.
In October EASE T1D was presented with a Proclamation declaring November as National Diabetes Awareness Month by our Corona City Mayor, Dick Haley. Michelle’s daughter Sierra who was diagnosed with T1D at just 15 months and is now 14, was able to join us and speak about life with T1D. We could not be more proud of our teen advocate who is clearly following in her mom’s footsteps!
Michelle and I were guest speakers at numerous events including Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) as well as our Corona Norco Unified School District’s Board Meeting which was held on World Diabetes Day, November 14th! We believe getting out in the community and sharing our story is key in educating the public.
November had many great things take place for National Diabetes Awareness Month including our awareness article in the California School Boards Association’s Newsletter which is sent out to all school board members as well as online.
Our local newspaper, The Press-Enterprise, did an article on some of our Santiago High School Athletes, including both my son Dylan and Michelle’s daughter Sierra, to help raise awareness in regards to managing your life as a student with T1D. We were excited to see this article made the FRONT PAGE HEADLINE on WORLD DIABETES DAY!!
We Need Your Support!
Please help us continue with our efforts to bring Education, Awareness, Support, and Empowerment to medical professionals, the general public, and to families who have loved ones with Type 1 Diabetes.
